Article: Why Do We Use Sterling Silver As The Base Metal For Our Gold Plated Jewelry

Why Do We Use Sterling Silver As The Base Metal For Our Gold Plated Jewelry

We choose sterling silver as the base metal for two reasons only :

  1. No Allergies or Health Hazards: Sterling silver is fairly chemical inert. Physical exposure to 92.5% silver jewelry is unlikely to cause allergic reactions to the manufacturer and the jewelry bearer alike, something generally observed with brass jewelry. We value the well-being of our clientele and our expert artisans well above the minor rise in the input cost.
  2. Ease of Workability : Sterling silver is soft, malleable and ductile, much like 22 carat gold. Most of craftsmanship that goes into making our jewelry is manual and is done by hands. Especially, stone setting and metal carving requires considerable physical strength. A soft metal just makes it a tad easier physically for the artisans to render the best finish to the product. Besides, metal melting is a crucial daily manufacturing activity. Melting brass produces large amounts of metal oxides which are harmful to everyone involved.

Silver is, by far, the least expensive of all materials that make up our gold plated jewelry. Choosing silver as the base metal over other materials such as brass, makes all the more sense given the above benefits versus the small extra cost.

It is important to point out that our decision to utilize silver is not influenced by its historic perception as a 'precious metal', 'a financial investment alternative to gold', or the fad/ trend of 'silver is the new gold'.

We believe that boasting about the lowest contributor to the input cost is both mischievous and misleading.
